Another Footy Tipping Season draws to a close!

And that’s the final whistle on another year of Footy Tipping!

After a full season of tipping, plenty of competition and no doubt a few moments of questionable confidence, we have our winners for 2026.

Congratulations to all three – and especially our winner, Bill, for taking out the top spot and this year’s big cash prize!

A big thank you also goes to Val for once again putting in the work behind the scenes to organise the competition and keep everything running throughout the season. These competitions don’t happen without someone putting in the effort, and we really appreciate it.

We’d also like to thank Tim from Toowong Village Meat for supplying the sausages for our end-of-season celebration.
They were a welcome addition to the afternoon and helped us finish the season in good style – and of course to Max, for sizzling those aforementioned snags!

Most importantly, thanks to everyone who joined in and made this year’s competition such a great part of the club calendar.
Whether you finished at the top of the ladder or spent the season wondering where it all went wrong, we hope you enjoyed the competition.

A Double Win for West Toowong Bowls Club! 🏆🏆

West Toowong Bowls Club has celebrated a very special night, taking home two awards at the 2026 Inner West Small Business Awards on Wednesday night.

🏆 Lifetime Local Legend Award
🏆 Making Brisbane’s Lifestyle Better Award

Organised and hosted by Councillor Penny Wolff, the awards recognise the small businesses and community organisations that make a genuine contribution to the character, connection and quality of life of Brisbane’s Inner West.

For West Toowong Bowls Club, receiving both awards is a wonderful recognition of the club’s role in the local community.

While bowls is at the heart of who we are, the club has grown into something much bigger; a place where people come together.
It is a local meeting place, a welcoming community hub and a space where friendships are formed, conversations are shared and people can enjoy being part of something close to home.

That community connection is what makes the club special.
It is the people who walk through our doors, the team who look after them, the volunteers and members who contribute their time, and the wider local community that continues to support the club.

The Lifetime Local Legend Award recognises the lasting place the club holds within its community, while the Making Brisbane’s Lifestyle Better Award celebrates the positive contribution a welcoming local venue can make to everyday life.

A huge thank you to our staff, committee, members, volunteers and supporters, and especially to everyone who took the time to vote for West Toowong Bowls Club.

These awards are a reflection of the community that has grown around the club – and we’re incredibly proud to be part of it.

Last Sunday’s Bowling for Millie community day was another exciting and heartfelt event, bringing our community together in support of Epilepsy Queensland and families living with epilepsy.

With Bistro on Bywong open and serving burgers throughout the day, live music all afternoon from The Basmentalists and Smashed Arvo, and auctions hosted by Brett Andreassen of Plum Property, the day was filled with laughter, warmth, generosity and genuine community from start to finish.
What a turnout!

This year’s event raised $14,907, contributing to a remarkable four-year fundraising total of $67,000 through Bowling for Millie.

At the heart of it all is Millie, and the reality that she and her family live with every day.
In honour of Millie, her father, Tim, continues to drive this event forward with strength, kindness and determination, helping raise both funds and awareness for a cause that means so much to so many families.

What Tim is doing for Epilepsy Queensland helps the team continue providing support for other families navigating this incredibly complex diagnosis, and the West Toowong Bowls Club is honoured to play a part in that inspirational goal.

As a club, we are not only proud to host the day, but so proud of the community that gets behind it so eagerly
Events like this only happen because of the people who care, show up, donate, volunteer and give generously.

A sincere thank you goes to everyone who supported this year’s event, including our staff and bowls members, and the many individuals, businesses and organisations who donated prizes and experiences for the day’s raffles and auctions.

Special thanks to Toowong Village Meats for donating the premium meat trays valued at over $200 each, helping generate an outstanding $5,000 through the sale of 1,000 raffle tickets.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Oatley Wines for their exquisite bottles donated for auction.
To Lion Nathan XXXX Brewery for generously donating a keg & cartons of beer with all proceeds from sales going to the cause.
To Sirromet Winery who donated an overnight stay and breakfast at one of their luxurious cabins.
and to Vadals who donated a collection of premium Tramontina knives.

Thank you also to the Brisbane Broncos for donating a signed jersey and game day experience pack,

A very special thank you also goes to those whose contributions added such a personal and meaningful touch to the day, including Millie’s own paintings, Sammie’s handmade quilt auction, and Rosie Pacey’s handmade teddies.

The West Toowong Bowls Club is deeply honoured to stand beside Tim, Millie and their family in support of such an important cause.

From fresh new startups to well-established icons, the very first Brisbane Inner West Small Business Awards showcased excellence across 15 categories – and we are truly honoured to stand among such inspiring company.

Bowling for Millie 2025 – A Striking Success for Epilepsy Queensland

West Toowong Bowls Club was proud to host “Bowling for Millie 2025”, a heartfelt and high-energy charity bowls event in support of Epilepsy Queensland.

Our amazing community came together in a big way, raising a fantastic $15,320 to help fund essential services and advocacy for people living with epilepsy.

One of the standout moments of the day was the grand entrance of Millie, who arrived in a spectacular purple Kenworth T909 semi-trailer.
This eye-catching truck, driven by Brad Hoadley, is a symbol of epilepsy awareness that travels across four states, spreading a powerful message of hope and education.

Adding even more colour and warmth to the day was our very own Rosie, a beloved member of the West Toowong community.

Rosie crocheted and sold an incredible array of handmade plushies, clothing, rugs, and more, raising hundreds of dollars through her craft stall.

Rosie was joined on the day by her 3 beautiful granddaughters, who helped facilitate the sale of these well-crafted items.
Her talent and heart brought a personal touch to the event and reminded us of the difference one passionate person can make.

Hosted by Brett Andreasson of Plum Property, the Live Auction was a huge hit, with a wide variety of generously donated items up for grabs, including:

• Sirromet Sanctuary Stay
• Illinbah Retreat Getaway
• A fantastic collection of sporting memorabilia, including:
  • 2025 signed Brisbane Broncos jersey
  • Framed Dolphins print

• One month of free coffee from Nowhere Espresso
• Beauty and wellness packages

The atmosphere was brought to life with live music throughout the day, featuring performances from The Basmentalists, as well as the club’s very own talented musicians, Clint and Jamie.
Their tunes set the perfect tone and kept spirits high from start to finish.

As a further part of our fundraising efforts, 10% of all food sales at the club on the day were donated to Epilepsy Queensland.
Whether guests were enjoying a bite to eat, bidding in the auction, or just soaking up the vibrant atmosphere, every contribution helped support this vital cause.

It was truly a day to remember for the Brisbane community, full of laughter, generosity, and purpose.
Events like Bowling for Millie showcase the heart of the West Toowong Bowls Club—bringing people together to support important causes through connection, community, and fun.

Thank you to everyone who donated, attended, or played a part in making this day so impactful.
Together, we’re helping raise awareness for epilepsy and support those affected in Queensland and beyond.

Our little bar has been holding us up for many a year now, she’s had a few different faces over that time, and after all this hard work she’d become a little weary.
Thankfully we were only too happy to show her a little love!
We’ve gone ahead and refurbed the whole thing, replacing bar surfaces for staff and customers alike.

Whilst the main structure remains the same, she’s been reworked for function and appearance on both sides, removing the tiles on the front and replacing with a strong poly-vinyl covering.

We think the simple yet modern look is both fantastic and functional, and we invite you along to come and give her a try!
Further congratulations go to Cam and Sean, winners of the local’s efforts to be the first in line to trial the new bar at her opening, christening her with a couple of cold ones!

Our new herb garden is shaping up quite well, transforming into a vibrant oasis of greenery right in our backyard.
We’re excited to see how quickly Luke from Bistro On Bywong will be able to cultivate his own selection of fresh herbs and vegetables, adding even more flavor and variety to his culinary creations.

This project has truly been a community effort, and we want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Michael Berkman, the Greens MP for Maiwar, whose generous grant made it possible for us to purchase high-quality garden soil and mulch.
These essential materials are crucial for establishing a healthy and thriving garden.

Additionally, we owe a big shoutout to our dedicated volunteer, Ian Plowman, whose ingenuity and hard work led to the creation of a possum-proof cover for the garden.
This thoughtful design will help protect our plants from any pesky intruders, ensuring that they have the best chance to flourish.

Together, we are building something special that will not only enhance our local environment but also support sustainable practices in our community.
We can’t wait to see how the garden grows and to share its bounty with everyone!
