Bowling for Millie ’26 – Supporting Epilepsy QLD

Event Date:
 22 March 2026

Event Cost:
 Free!

The West Toowong Bowls Club is proud to once again host our Annual Bowling for Millie Community Day, raising vital funds in support of Epilepsy Queensland.

This special day brings our community together for a cause that is close to many hearts – combining great company, good food, live entertainment, and plenty of reasons to dig deep for an incredible organisation.

Bowling for Millie began as a community initiative led by local butcher Tim Walsh of Toowong Village Meats in honour of his daughter Millie, who lives with severe epilepsy.
The event has grown into one of West Toowong Bowls Club’s most meaningful annual community days, bringing together members, volunteers and local businesses to support Epilepsy Queensland.

Who are Epilepsy QLD?

Epilepsy Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation providing support, education, services, and advocacy for Queensland children and adults living with epilepsy, as well as their families, carers, employers, and support networks.

For over 50 years, they have been dedicated to building a Queensland that prioritises brain health and provides hope, understanding, and practical support to people affected by epilepsy.

Who is Millie?

The heart of Bowling for Millie lies with Millie herself.

We believe this story is best told by the creator and driving force behind the event – our local butcher, dear friend, and proud father, Tim Walsh.

“Hello Friends,
I would like to introduce you to my daughter Millie who just turned 21.
She loves art, music and dancing.
Millie was born with Epilepsy and experiences regular seizures daily.  Unfortunately, her seizures are not able to be controlled by medication, having a profound impact on her life.
Millie’s family have always been there, providing the support she needs.

Bowling for Millie day is about giving back to Epilepsy Queensland, so they can continue to help other families in need.

After 21 years of watching Millie suffer with this horrendous disease, this is Millie’s way of giving back to Epilepsy Queensland so they can provide care and support that families need.”

Thank you,
-Tim.

Bowling for Millie Charity Event 2025

Bowling for Millie 2025 – A Striking Success for Epilepsy Queensland

West Toowong Bowls Club was proud to host “Bowling for Millie 2025”, a heartfelt and high-energy charity bowls event in support of Epilepsy Queensland.

Our amazing community came together in a big way, raising a fantastic $15,320 to help fund essential services and advocacy for people living with epilepsy.

One of the standout moments of the day was the grand entrance of Millie, who arrived in a spectacular purple Kenworth T909 semi-trailer.
This eye-catching truck, driven by Brad Hoadley, is a symbol of epilepsy awareness that travels across four states, spreading a powerful message of hope and education.

Adding even more colour and warmth to the day was our very own Rosie, a beloved member of the West Toowong community.

Rosie crocheted and sold an incredible array of handmade plushies, clothing, rugs, and more, raising hundreds of dollars through her craft stall.

Rosie was joined on the day by her 3 beautiful granddaughters, who helped facilitate the sale of these well-crafted items.
Her talent and heart brought a personal touch to the event and reminded us of the difference one passionate person can make.

Hosted by Brett Andreasson of Plum Property, the Live Auction was a huge hit, with a wide variety of generously donated items up for grabs, including:

  • Premium Wines
  • Sirromet Sanctuary Stay
  • Illinbah Retreat Getaway
  • A fantastic collection of sporting memorabilia, including:
    • 2025 signed Brisbane Broncos jersey
    • Framed Dolphins print
    • Signed Brisbane Lions jersey
    • Signed Canterbury Bulldogs jersey
    • Framed Ricky Stuart print
  • One month of free coffee from Nowhere Espresso
  • Beauty and wellness packages

The atmosphere was brought to life with live music throughout the day, featuring performances from The Basmentalists, as well as the club’s very own talented musicians, Clint and Jamie.
Their tunes set the perfect tone and kept spirits high from start to finish.

As a further part of our fundraising efforts, 10% of all food sales at the club on the day were donated to Epilepsy Queensland.
Whether guests were enjoying a bite to eat, bidding in the auction, or just soaking up the vibrant atmosphere, every contribution helped support this vital cause.

It was truly a day to remember for the Brisbane community, full of laughter, generosity, and purpose.
Events like Bowling for Millie showcase the heart of the West Toowong Bowls Club—bringing people together to support important causes through connection, community, and fun.

Thank you to everyone who donated, attended, or played a part in making this day so impactful.
Together, we’re helping raise awareness for epilepsy and support those affected in Queensland and beyond.

Footy Tipping Comp – Registrations Open!

Registrations are open for the 2025 NRL Footy tipping comp at The West Toowong Bowls Club!

Registration is $35.00, and after a tight finish last year the competition couldn’t be more fierce!

Get in now to secure your place, simply ask at the bar and we’ll be sure to get you on the books.

And of course, a big thanks to our lovely Val for her dedication to running and organising the comp each year.

Bar Refurb Completed!

Our little bar has been holding us up for many a year now, she’s had a few different faces over that time, and after all this hard work she’d become a little weary.
Thankfully we were only too happy to show her a little love!
We’ve gone ahead and refurbed the whole thing, replacing bar surfaces for staff and customers alike.

Whilst the main structure remains the same, she’s been reworked for function and appearance on both sides, removing the tiles on the front and replacing with a strong poly-vinyl covering.

We think the simple yet modern look is both fantastic and functional, and we invite you along to come and give her a try!
Further congratulations go to Cam and Sean, winners of the local’s efforts to be the first in line to trial the new bar at her opening, christening her with a couple of cold ones!

Well done lads!

Our New Herb Garden

Our new herb garden is shaping up quite well, transforming into a vibrant oasis of greenery right in our backyard.
We’re excited to see how quickly Luke from Bistro On Bywong will be able to cultivate his own selection of fresh herbs and vegetables, adding even more flavor and variety to his culinary creations.

This project has truly been a community effort, and we want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Michael Berkman, the Greens MP for Maiwar, whose generous grant made it possible for us to purchase high-quality garden soil and mulch.
These essential materials are crucial for establishing a healthy and thriving garden.

Additionally, we owe a big shoutout to our dedicated volunteer, Ian Plowman, whose ingenuity and hard work led to the creation of a possum-proof cover for the garden.
This thoughtful design will help protect our plants from any pesky intruders, ensuring that they have the best chance to flourish.

Together, we are building something special that will not only enhance our local environment but also support sustainable practices in our community.
We can’t wait to see how the garden grows and to share its bounty with everyone!

Footy Tipping Comp Winners

And that’s a wrap for another year! The highly anticipated footy tipping season has officially drawn to a close, marking the end of an exciting journey filled with friendly competition and spirited camaraderie.

We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Jayden Burrows, the standout champion and winner of this year’s Footy Tipping competition!
Your skill and strategy truly set you apart, and we can’t wait to see how you defend your title next season.

A massive shoutout goes to Val, whose hard work and dedication made this entire event possible.
Your efforts in organizing the competition and keeping everyone engaged have been invaluable, and we appreciate everything you’ve done to bring our community together.

We also want to express our gratitude to Tim from Toowong Village Meat for providing the delicious sausages that made our End-of-season ceremony even more enjoyable.
Your support added a wonderful touch to our celebrations and kept everyone fueled and ready to cheer for their teams.

Here’s to all the legends who participated this season! Your enthusiasm and sportsmanship have truly made this experience memorable, and we look forward to doing it all again next year.

Let the countdown to the next season begin!

Community Open Day

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making our Community Open Day such a resounding success.

The day exceeded all expectations, and we are truly grateful to have had the opportunity to engage with so many incredible community groups.
Together, we not only strengthened existing relationships but also forged new connections that will undoubtedly benefit our shared future.

In addition to fostering a sense of unity, the event helped raise vital funds for the club, enabling us to continue our mission and grow stronger as a community hub.

It was also a fantastic platform to showcase what makes our club so special—the people who make up this community.
Your enthusiasm, passion, and generosity highlight just how much we can achieve when we come together.

Thank you once again to all who made the day so memorable.
We look forward to many more opportunities to celebrate and collaborate with you.
